Meet Lexi, one of our Clinical Counseling Interns for the 2021-2022 school year! Lexi heard about the intern opportunities at The Bridge through her school, DePaul University.
Interns at The Bridge get a chance to work one-on-one with our licensed supervisors and therapists as well as clients—giving them real-world experience working in the mental health field. Interns facilitate therapy groups such as depression, self-esteem, and anxiety groups. They also help make connections with school social workers, so that they can best advocate for clients.
“My first impression of The Bridge was that it is like a family! Everyone was so welcoming, supportive, and friendly as I navigated being a new intern. The Bridge has encouraged me to be myself and bring my own unique and creative ideas into the counseling room! I learned that as a counselor, you do not have to change who you are.”
Upon completion of her internship, Lexi plans to continue to work with youth and advocate for mental health within the community. She says The Bridge has helped her grow as a clinician and challenged her in many ways.
“I am grateful for my time here! My favorite memory working with The Bridge staff was when we had a fall retreat and participated in a pumpkin carving contest! Halloween is my favorite holiday, and it was so much fun celebrating it with my coworkers!”
The Bridge is grateful for all of our interns that assist in our clinical programs. If you are interested in becoming an intern, see more about those programs here.
